Denim, one of the most popular fabrics of all time, is unique in its ability to span the decades, fashions and seasons, constantly changing yet always true to itself. Renowned for its durability, it was traditionally made of cotton with a twill weave, using écru yarns for the warp and indigo blue dyed yarns in the weft. Originating from the south of France, it is reputed to date back to the 17th century. The name of this robust fabric “serge de Nîmes” (Nîmes twill) was transformed into the English “denim” and used to make workwear for labourers. Since then, denim has changed shape and identity. Loro Piana pays homage by reinterpreting it in fabrics with premium fibres such as cashmere, wool and the finest cotton. Its essence changes and is enriched, yet it retains the distinctive modern and casual look that has always set it apart.
